Grateful to have discovered this
It follows well on the last read to follow with one published some decades later. The Title, “Sennex & Puer”, my first of James Hillman’s. This is another Jungian analyst but here I think is a new paradigm for the archetype in that Puer and Sennex are, while often thought of separately and as opposites are joined here as one archetype. “The union of sames” since to be of a consciousness in one pole while for remarkably different reasons, leads to the same result as such. Which to me feels like neuroticism. Puer cannot, Sennex will not. Puer needs Sennex. Sennex, Puer. While I do not think the idea is to find a kind of completion here for that would be to conjure and impose a limitation on an archetype, ever a living image, as if we could use what we almost have to imagine as prehuman in order to contemplate a significance which approaches truths, there is indeed a kind of relationship between these which can catalyze any manner of necessary psychic or life event.
I am particularly grateful for the representation of puer and senex as necessary aspects for as a look back on the seasons I see where one was predominant even to the wished for and total exclusion of the other, and yet even in those seasons the other foretold of it’s coming in the representations of it’s needs here and there. Vague, I know. But it is really too much to say here and isn’t necessary. It is as if, for me, to polarize one way is to polarize the other way soon enough. The relationship is what’s viable.
